How much weight can I expect to lose drinking green smoothies?

Smoothie Question: How much weight can I expect to lose drinking green smoothies?

Answer: I've seen where people people mainly drink green smoothies all day long and lose weight really fast.

Weight loss could vary by quite a bit. How much extra weight do you carry on your body? The more weight that you have the more you will easily lose in the beginning.

Why do people lose weight with green smoothies?

There are a handful of different reasons for weight loss results with green smoothies.

Reason #1 - Did you know that an average quart size green smoothie contains only between 200-350 calories? Considering that weight loss plans suggest about 1500 calories for the entire day, you could have several smoothies and still stay under your daily caloric limit.

Reason #2 - Foods that are available to us today are greatly processed. Unfortunately, many of the nutrients are stripped away before it lands on your dinner plate.

You are still getting the calories, sugars, proteins, and some fiber. But many of the vitamins, enzymes, minerals, and phytonutrients that our bodies need to thrive are missing. So, our body craves more food in order to find those missing nutrients. But instead of eating something that will satisfy those cravings, we usually eat junk food. But an hour later we still crave more food.

This is where a green smoothie comes in handy. If you need a snack, turn on that blender. Greens are an excellent way to satisfy those nutritional cravings.

Even better yet... drink a green smoothie in place of a meal. Which runs into reason #3.

Reason #3 - Consider this thought... When you are consuming something good for you, you probably are not consuming something bad at the same time. When people want to lose weight, I don't recommend them to focus on removing things from their diet.

I've found that it's much easier to focus on adding healthy habits that will eventually replace the bad habits. There aren't many habits as healthy as adding green smoothies to your daily routine.

For instance... Picking up an expensive cappincino and muffin on your way to work could be replaced with a green smoothie quite easily.

Or you can drink a green smoothie for supper instead of ordering fast food on those busy nights that you don't have time to cook at home.

How to lose weight with green smoothies?

I could write a whole book on this one question. But here are a couple tips to answer this question.

Weight loss tip #1 - Drink at least 1 quart or 4 cups of green smoothie a day. I like drinking it for breakfast and throughout the morning. Then I eat eat a healthy and balanced lunch and dinner.

Weight loss tip #2 - Make sure to limit high caloric foods in your smoothie. I recommend no more then 2 bananas in a smoothie for one person. Bananas are calorie dense.

Another calorie-packed ingredient that I see many people use is fruit juice. I prefer water. If you need the smoothie sweeter, you should consider using a little bit of stevia. Stevia contains no calories.

So... How much weight can I expect to lose drinking green smoothies?

From what I've seen with my friends and family, if you drink at least a quart of green smoothie you can lose at least 2-3 pounds a week. But it does depends on what you eat throughout the day as well.

As you nourish your body, you will find it easier to resist those monster cravings for sweets and salty junk food. This alone will help you shed those pounds.

You will not only experience weight loss, but you will probably also see other health benefits from green smoothies.

What do you have to lose? Give green smoothies a try!

Discouraged...

I've been drinking 1-2 quarts a day for the past 10 days now. In the first week I did lose 2 lbs., but now I've gained those back and 2 more! I stopped drinking diet sodas, I drink at least 60 ounces of water a day, a small whole wheat, turkey & swiss snadwich for lunch and a minumal dinner.
Maybe I'm putting the wrong stuff in my smoothies... I use 3 cups spinach, 1/2 c frozen blueberries, 3 strawberries, 1 banana and 1 cup water.

Weight loss and inflammation
by: Susan

I can tell you smoothies absolutely do help you lose weight. I have been drinking them for a couple weeks now, and I have lost 12 pounds! I have more energy during the day, I feel more alert, foods actually taste better, and I sleep more soundly! I have gotten compliments from a friend regarding my skin glowing, and looking overall healthier!

I can attest that you will stop craving junk food. For the last 2 weeks, I have not had any processed food, caffeine, or sugar, and I feel better and healthier than ever!!

My mother has knee problems, one more than the other. She has not been diagnosed yet, but a lifetime of being overweight, and falling directly on that knee a couple of times, and she was taking Aleve twice a day. Since we have been on the smoothies, her knee feels so much better. She is down to taking an Aleve maybe every other day. She has more motion, less pain, and less stiffness!

I usually make our smoothies, and try to find a nice balance between spinach, kale, or greens, and fruit. Generally, I use a couple pieces of pineapple, a banana, an apple, and then maybe a handfull of grapes, blueberries, or half an orange. It makes a blender full, and we split it. She thinks the pineapple has been what has helped her knee pain the most.

Green smoothies should definitely be on everyones food list!

Regarding the inflammation...
by: DaNae

First off... I would like to say how touch I am from your story. Your family have struggled through a lot. I cannot say that green smoothie will or will not help your son's inflammation.

I do know that it will most likely improve his overall health. So please let me and everyone else know how the smoothies affect your son.

Yes, you can prepare your smoothies ahead of time. I would rather you do it and lose some nutrients than to not do it all.

Some ways to avoid losing nutrients:

#1 - Make sure to chill your smoothie right away.

#2 - Fill the container that you store the smoothie in to the top. This will reduce the amount of oxygenation.

#3 - Adding a lemon or lemon juice can help reduce oxygenation as well.

I hope that you'll continue enjoying your smoothies.

Nutrient lost as smoothie sits overnight
by: Anonymous

Does anyone have any information about whether or not the green smoothies lose any nutrient value if they sit overnight? I leave for work very early in the morning (5:30 am) and do not want to wake the house up with the noisy blender. So, I prepare my green smoothie at night and keep it in the fridge. I grab it on my way out the door. It tastes fine, but I was wondering about nutrient loss. Thanks!

Smoothie for your daughter
by: DaNae

Green smoothies would probably be a good thing for your daughter and your growing grandchild.

Is she able to keep foods down? Is she sensitive to certain foods and smells? Avoid those foods. If she isn't use to eating greens, I would suggest using more of her favorite fruits with small amounts of greens. Build up the amount of greens with every smoothie. Then use spinach and lettuce at the beginning. They are mild in flavor.

Some other things good to add for pregnancy are raw sesame seeds or tahini. This is filled with calcium. Sunflower seeds, hemp seeds, and chia seeds are good options as well.

I hope that your daughters pregnancy finishes out well.

Pregnant
by: Julie

My daughter is pregnant for the 2nd time. She is extremely sick. She has a picc line just to keep her hydrated, at home in bed. I'm convinced that a green smoothie would help. Any suggestions as to a recipe for her.
Anything would be helpful.
Thanks
Julie
