Arugula Recipes - Green Smoothies

Arugula Recipes

Transforming arugula recipes into tasty green smoothies is my favorite way to add arugula to my diet. One of my other favorite ways to have arugula is chopped on top of pizza drizzled with a balsamic vinegar sauce.

Green smoothie beginners beware! I do have to warn you that arugula smoothies are not for the weak of heart. These green smoothies can be fairly bitter. There are some ways to still use arugula so that you don't have to gag it down.

#1 Trick for Blending Perfect Arugula Smoothies

The biggest tip that I've found to help drink down my arugula green smoothie is to use a loose handful of arugula leaves mixed with a type of mild greens, like spinach or lettuce. This way I feel as I'm reaching my goal amount of greens for my body, but still mixing in a variety of greens for the rainbow of nutrients.

Baby arugula is more mild and not quite as spicy. I grow arugula to sell at the farmers' market every summer. I notice that if it is hot and the arugula doesn't get enough water, the greens get spicier. Of course you can't know the watering practices of the farmers on the arugula at the store. In that case... the baby leaves are a better choice.

Omega 3's in Arugula

Research has shown that our bodies require Omega 3 fatty acids for proper brain growth and function. Omega 3's are important for many other aspects of our bodies as well.

You may be surprised to learn that along with spinach and lettuce, Arugula contains those healthy Omega 3 fatty acids. For every 100 grams of Arugula there are 170 mg of Omega 3's. Pretty amazing!
