Can I make smoothies ahead?
Question: Can I make smoothies ahead? Do smoothies lose their nutrients if they are made ahead and refrigerated?
Smoothies do lose some of their nutrients if sitting for longer periods of time. But if that was my only option, I wouldn't let that stop me from blending a smoothie ahead of time.
If you want to prevent oxidation, blend in some lemon juice or part of a peeled lemon. Even with some of the nutrient loss, it'll still be a healthier option than a lot of other things.
If you need to be on-the-go, you can pour your freshly made smoothie into a cold thermos. Then you can take your smoothie with you.
Sometimes, I blend a smoothie and place it in the freezer. I then take it out about a half hour before I want to drink it.
I hope this helps!
