Can I make smoothies ahead?

Question: Can I make smoothies ahead? Do smoothies lose their nutrients if they are made ahead and refrigerated?

Answer: Smoothies do lose some of their nutrients if sitting for longer periods of time. But if that was my only option, I wouldn't let that stop me from blending a smoothie ahead of time.

If you want to prevent oxidation, blend in some lemon juice or part of a peeled lemon. Even with some of the nutrient loss, it'll still be a healthier option than a lot of other things.

If you need to be on-the-go, you can pour your freshly made smoothie into a cold thermos. Then you can take your smoothie with you.

Sometimes, I blend a smoothie and place it in the freezer. I then take it out about a half hour before I want to drink it.

I hope this helps!

Happy Blending!

Smoothie ice cubes
by: Jennifer

I make smoothies ahead of time and freeze the mixture into an ice cube tray. Then I put the "smoothie cubes" into a Ziploc bag and store them in the freezer. When I want a good smoothie, I put some smoothie cubes and whatever produce I happen to have in the blender. What do you think of that?
