Green Smoothies for a Type 2 Diabetic

by Rusty

Are green smoothies for a type 2 diabetic? I am getting ready to start making green smoothies
each day. I will be drinking 16 oz per day. I was wondering if my Glucose level will go down, because I am a Type 2 diabetic.

I am not a raw foodist and at this time do not plan to change that. Will I still see significant benefits from the smoothie if I am a meat eater?
Thanks. I love the site!

Best regards,
Rusty

Rusty,

You most certainly can have the benefits of green smoothies without going all raw and vegan.

I have a diabetic friend that drinks green smoothies. He actually blends 4 cups of smoothie. He drinks 12-16 oz in the morning and the rest he drinks in the afternoon. He saw a very positive effect in his health from green smoothies, even though he eats meat.

If you find that you get a sugar rush from the fruit, here are some ideas for you:

1 - Use water instead of juice as the liquid of the smoothie.

2 - Sweeten the smoothie with stevia rather than other natural sugar sweeteners.

3 - Some find that adding some kind of fiber and protein like hemp seed powder helps slow down the absorption of the sugars.

I hope this helps!

Happy Blending!
