Low Calorie Smoothie Recipes Made with Lettuce

Lettuce

Low calorie smoothie recipes with fruit and a surprise ingredient. That ingredient is called lettuce.

Yes...

Lettuce blended into a fruit smoothie actually tastes great. You will really grow to love greens in your smoothies when you realize the benefits of green smoothies.

We all know that salad dressing is filled with sugar, oil, and the unknown by looking at the back of the bottle. We all eat greens to vitalize our bodies. Unfortunately, eating a salad swimming in unhealthy dressing actually counterbalances the health benefits from the greens.

You can make your own salad dressing with healthy fats, such as nuts, seeds, coconut milk, etc. Blending up a dressing for a salad can be time consuming, but well worth the effort.

These homemade dressings are very tasty. My 2 year old will eat his salad if a “smoothie” dressing is drizzled on it. Silly boy.

One downside to dressings can be the high calorie content. Yes, these dressings usually contain less calories than premade dressings. But for those wanting to lose weight, finding a delicious way to eat their lettuce with no to little dressing may be the answer.

Now my son needs a lot of calories. Someone who is athletic will need more calories. A pregnant and nursing mother needs those healthy fats to grow their baby’s brain.

But someone trying to lose weight does not need all those extra calories. This is where low calorie smoothie recipes excel!

Lettuce Smoothie

Lettuce, like most greens, is extremely low in calories. One cup of shredded lettuce contains 8 calories! Lettuce fills up a stomach with fibrous bulk. This keeps you full and satisfied until your next meal.

To use these low calories to your advantage, blend up your lettuce with a homemade fruit smoothie. These green smoothie recipes are surprisingly sweet and yet packed full of nutrients and fiber.

You can use any kind of lettuce. There is romaine, loose leaf, and butterheads.

To save money you can learn how to grow lettuce! Besides grass, it is one of the easiest things to grow. Hey, I do not have a green thumb... but I can grow lettuce. Since I can do it, I am sure that you can also.

Of course you do not have to start with a whole head of lettuce. Start out with 5 leaves and work your way up. I would love to hear how your experimenting with low calorie smoothie recipes went.
